Who we are
PetraVox is a mobile app that identifies monuments, landmarks and works of art from your photos, and offers audio narrations. PetraVox is published by Jimmy Adelaide, an individual developer based in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

Data we collect
- Account data: your email address, your display name and, if you add one, your profile photo. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the email address and name that service shares with us.
- Photos you scan, and the results generated from them: identification, category, cultural information, the approximate position of the place shown, and audio narrations.
- Scan credit: how many scans you have left, and a daily count of photos refused because they show no cultural place.
- Purchases: the plan you bought (Travel Pass or annual plan), its dates, the store used and the store's transaction identifier. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple or Google: we never see your card details.
- Your favourites and in-app notifications.
- Suggestions you send from "Your ideas": your message, its category, the app language and platform, and your email address only if you tick "You may contact me about it".
- Crash reports and performance data (iPhone and Android app only): when the app crashes or an error occurs, a technical report with the error trace, app version, device model, operating system and an anonymous installation identifier; and measurements of loading and network response times, linked to an installation identifier and to your IP address (used only to determine the country). These reports contain no name, no email address, no photo and no scan content.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
How we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis (UK GDPR and EU GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Analysing your photos, generating narrations, keeping your history, favourites and map | Performance of our contract with you |
| Managing your scan credit and your purchases | Performance of our contract with you |
| Preventing abuse (limit on refused photos per day) and securing the service | Our legitimate interest in protecting the service |
| Fixing crashes and errors, and measuring the app's speed | Our legitimate interest in providing a reliable app |
| Reading your suggestions to improve the app, and answering you if you asked us to | Our legitimate interest in improving the app; your consent for the reply |
Your location
Optional. When you scan, PetraVox may ask to use your device's location, only while the app is open. If you agree, the position of your phone is sent with the photo to our server, which uses it for one thing: finding the known monuments nearby, so the analysis can recognise the exact place. It is not sent to the AI provider, and it is not saved in your account or in our databases. Scanning works exactly the same if you refuse, or if your position is unavailable or imprecise.
The position shown for a discovery on your map is the approximate position of the place in the photo, as identified by our analysis — not where your phone was. We do not track your location and keep no history of your movements. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your phone's settings.
Service providers
We rely on the following providers, which process data only on our behalf:
- Google Firebase: sign-in, database (hosted in Europe), storage of your photos and narrations, server functions, crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics) and performance measurement (Firebase Performance Monitoring).
- Google Gemini API (paid tier, not used to train Google's models): analysis of the photos you scan.
- ElevenLabs: text-to-speech for audio narrations.
- Google Maps Platform: map display.
- Google and Apple: sign-in, if you choose to use them, and payment for purchases made through the App Store or Google Play.
- RevenueCat: management of purchases and subscriptions (it receives an anonymous account identifier and the store's purchase records, not your name or email address).
Some of this processing takes place in the United States, including the storage of your photos and narrations and our server functions. These transfers are protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from your profile in the app. This permanently erases your scans, photos, narrations, favourites and notifications.
Crash reports are kept by Google for 90 days; performance data for 30 days when linked to an IP address, and 60 days otherwise. Suggestions are kept for as long as they help us improve the app; you can ask us to delete them at any time (see Contact).
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete and export your data, and to object to its use based on our legitimate interest. To exercise these rights, email petravox.contact@gmail.com. We reply within one month.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the European Union, the authority of your country (in France, the CNIL, www.cnil.fr).
Children
PetraVox is not intended for children under 13. In the European Union, users below the age of digital consent in their country (15 in France) need permission from a parent or guardian.
Security
Your data is accessible only through your own account. The keys to our AI services stay on our servers and never pass through the app.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as PetraVox evolves. We will show the new date at the top of this page, and notify you in the app of any significant change. For any question, email petravox.contact@gmail.com.
